# GitRepoGate > GitRepoGate is a Whop app that invites paying members to a private GitHub repository when they join and removes them when their membership ends. Price: free for 1 repository. GitRepoGate Pro is $7.99 per month per Whop business for unlimited repositories, billed through Whop. Members never pay. ## How it works 1. Connect GitHub and pick a repo. Install the GitRepoGate GitHub App on the repositories you choose, then add them to your Whop and pick which products unlock each one. 2. Member links their GitHub account. Inside your Whop, the member signs in with GitHub. GitRepoGate checks their membership and sends the repository invite straight away. 3. Access follows the membership. When a subscription ends, GitRepoGate re-checks access with Whop and cancels the invite or removes the collaborator. One-time purchases and members you grant lifetime access keep it. ## Subscription or lifetime access - Subscription: Sell a recurring plan on Whop. Members keep access while they pay, and lose it automatically when they cancel or their plan expires. - One-time purchase: Sell a plan with a single, non-recurring payment. The membership never expires, so the member keeps access for good. No setting needed. - Lifetime access for anyone: Give lifetime access to any member from the members page: founding members, early supporters or collaborators. Their access stays even if their subscription ends. ## Features - Checks Whop every time: Every invite and every removal asks Whop whether the member has access right now. Nothing is granted from a cached status. - One GitHub account per member: Each membership links to exactly one GitHub account, so one subscription can't be passed around a group chat. - Removes access when it ends: Cancelled or expired subscriptions lose repo access, unless the member holds another membership covering the same repo or you've given them lifetime access. - Read, triage or write: Choose the GitHub permission for each repository. Most creators give members read access: clone and pull only. - A repo for each product: Sell a starter tier and a pro tier with different repositories. Limit each repo to the products that include it. - A GitHub App, not a token: GitRepoGate works through a GitHub App you install on chosen repos. There is no personal access token to leak or expire. ## Use cases - Course companion repos: Give students the full source for every lesson for as long as they're enrolled. - Starter kits and boilerplates: Sell a SaaS starter as a subscription or a one-time purchase, and ship updates to members with a git pull. - Trading bots and scripts: Keep strategies and indicators in a private repo that only active subscribers can read. - Private SDKs and early-access forks: Let supporters build on the version before it goes public. ## We never get access to your repository Not GitRepoGate, not our team. We're never added as a collaborator, the GitHub App has no permission to read your code, and we don't store it. The only accounts it ever invites are the ones your members link, and you can see each of them in your repository's collaborator list. ## What GitRepoGate does - Invite a linked GitHub account to the repositories you added - Cancel pending invites and remove collaborators it added - Read repository metadata to list the repos you can choose from - Notice when someone removes a collaborator by hand on GitHub ## What GitRepoGate never does - Give us, or anyone besides your members, access to your repository - Read, change or copy your code - Store your code. It keeps only repository names and members' GitHub usernames - Touch repositories you didn't install the GitHub App on - Take back a copy a member already cloned. No tool can, that's how git works - Make your repository public ## FAQ ### What is GitRepoGate? GitRepoGate is a Whop app that invites paying members to a private GitHub repository when they join and removes them when their membership ends. It runs inside your Whop community, so members link their GitHub account without leaving it. ### Can the GitRepoGate team see my code? No. We're never added to your repository, and the GitHub App has no permission to read its contents. GitHub's install screen lists exactly what it can do before you approve it. It only invites and removes the GitHub accounts your members link, and we don't store your code: the app keeps repository names and members' GitHub usernames so it knows whose access to remove. You can check your repository's collaborator list at any time, and uninstalling the GitHub App cuts it off immediately. ### Does my repository need to be public? No. Your repository stays private. Members are added as outside collaborators with the permission level you choose, and only while their membership is active. ### What happens when a member cancels? When Whop reports that a membership has ended, GitRepoGate checks whether the member still has access through any other membership. If not, it cancels their pending invite or removes them as a collaborator. Members who bought a one-time purchase, or who you've given lifetime access, keep their access. ### Can I sell lifetime access to my repository? Yes. Sell a one-time purchase on Whop instead of a subscription: that membership never expires, so the member keeps repository access for good. You can offer both on the same repository, for example a monthly plan and a lifetime plan. You can also give lifetime access to any existing member from the app's members page, and their access stays even if their subscription ends. Lifetime access covers memberships ending; if you remove the repository from GitRepoGate or disconnect GitHub, access is removed as usual. ### Can one member share access with friends? No. Each membership links to one GitHub account. To give access to a second account, that person needs their own membership. ### Which GitHub permissions does GitRepoGate need? Repository Administration (read and write) to invite and remove collaborators, repository Metadata (read-only), and organization Members (read-only) so it can notice collaborators removed by hand. It has no Contents permission, so it can't read your code, and you choose which repositories it's installed on. ### Can I gate several repositories for different products? Yes, with GitRepoGate Pro. Add as many repositories as you like to an experience, give each its own permission level, and limit each one to the products that include it, so a starter tier and a pro tier can unlock different repos. The free plan covers one repository. ### What if a member already cloned the repository? Removing access stops future pulls and pushes, but a copy already on someone's computer stays there. That's true of every way of sharing a git repository. ### Does it work with repositories owned by a GitHub organization? Yes. You can install the GitRepoGate GitHub App on a personal account or an organization and choose which repositories it can manage. ### How much does GitRepoGate cost? GitRepoGate is free for one repository. GitRepoGate Pro is $7.99 per month per Whop business for unlimited repositories, billed through Whop. Your members never pay GitRepoGate anything. ## Links - [Homepage](https://gitrepogate.com/) - [Privacy policy](https://gitrepogate.com/privacy) - [Terms](https://gitrepogate.com/terms) - [Install on Whop](https://whop.com/apps/app_aZO9bUOYv9EWOX/install/) - Support: support@vemely.com Last updated: 2026-09-26
